The law varies and changes

Court decisions are summarized in plain language and can never capture every nuance of an opinion. The law also differs by jurisdiction, federal, state, and local rules vary, and a decision that controls in one place may not apply in another. Case law changes over time: decisions get narrowed, distinguished, or overruled. A "Last reviewed" date appears on case pages, but you should always confirm a holding is current before relying on it.
